365 Project - Day 128 - Our Greatest Hits

My Mom likes to tell the story of a telephone conversation we had my freshman year of college. I told her I'd met the nicest guy, Steven Romano, and that if he asked me to marry him that day, I would absolutely say yes. I never believed in love at first sight. I still don't. I think that love is something you have to grow into, something develops and intensifies with the passing of time. What I do believe in though is gut instincts, intuition, and I think mine were ringing loud and clear the moment I first met Steven.

We didn't do anything particularly special today--my second Mother's Day as an actual Mother. We slept in (thank you Cadence and Electra both for obliging). We had egg bagels (thank you Bruegger's Bagels for knowing what the hell those are and making a pretty decent version). We watched a movie (Invictus--great flick and worth a watch if you haven't seen it), watched the Mets play (and lose unfortunately). We took Electra and Cadence for a run at the dog park (well Cadence ran, Electra mostly sauntered and sniffed). Steven bought me some chocolate ice cream from the UNL Dairy Store. We had pot roast, mashed potatoes and gravy for dinner. I got a chance to talk to all of my Moms on the phone. And then we finished off the evening with some Celebrity Apprentice and finally watched Starr Jones get fired. All in all, it was a damn good day.

What I didn't do was pick up a pen to write anything (well other than this blog, since there is technically no such thing as a day off when you commit to doing a 365 Project) or pick up my camera. Should I have made an effort to get in front of the camera today? Perhaps. But I guess what I wanted more than anything else today was a well-deserved break. That's exactly what I got, and I loved every minute of it.

So, for today's 365 Project Entry, instead of posting a new pic, I thought I'd take the opportunity to post a few of what I consider our Greatest Hits. Regardless of the quality (as several of these were snapped with a cell phone camera), thse are some of my absolute favorites. Thank you to Steven, Cadence and Electra for the wonderful day, and for giving me a good reason to celebrate it!

My #1 favorite photo of Stevie and me. Boy do we look young!

Electra listening in on Cadence. This used to be her prime napping spot until Cadence took over Mom's lap.

For the longest time, Steven tried to deny even liking Electra a little bit, but photos don't lie.

The only way anyone got any real sleep in those early days.

Not the greatest idea to bounce your baby around and put her on your shoulders right after she ate. Ewww!

Our first and best (and only) family photo so far. Love it! But I think it's time for an update.

Daddy and his girls ready to take on the bike trail.

Just the girls.

Makes me think of "Walking After You" by Foo Fighters.
