365 Project - Day 112 - Finding God in the Details

"Religion is for those who are afraid of going to hell. Spirituality is for those who have already been there." -Lee Stringer, Grand Central Winter

At one point or another, I think just about everyone goes through some sort of spiritual crisis--trying to make sense of the universe that is larger than themselves, and trying to figure out just what they believe. It can happen during a time of loss, a time of extreme frustration and unhappiness, a time of intense joy. It can even happen out of boredom.

For me, it was a long hard road, trying to find my place and trying to make sense of the world around me. Maybe my beliefs don't conform to just one tradition, and maybe I don't go to church regularly or pray as often as I should. For me, I think my beliefs boil down to Lee Stinger's quote. I've been through hell and hit rock bottom, and what I found when I returned was a renewed sense of strength and hope and faith.

It has been my experience that many organized religions do so much worrying about what other religions believe (or don't) and condemning them that they lose sight of what's really important. I believe in a higher power. I believe that we are all connected. And I believe that we are all here for a purpose. If I can walk through this life loving others, helping others, and leaving the world a little better than I found it, then I have done my job and can be proud of the life I've led.

And for those people who need "proof" that there is a God, or a creator, a higher power or whatever you want to call it), all you have to do is open your eyes, take a look around and start paying attention to the details.

Today's 365 Project is dedicated to all the beauty in this world, and to all of those who take the time to stop and see it.

  2. I agree with Mom :)

Maybe it's age, or becoming a mother, but I've found peace with my beliefs, and it's a great feeling!
